Why the hell do we have to work, just to earn a crust?
The same old thing - day in, day out - unless you've got it sussed.
Get up in the morning and off to work hoping for something new,
But even the new things are just the same as the others that you do!
Whether sweeping the street, delivering the mail or head of a PLC,
Or some lawyer bending the truth to earn a big fat fee -
What everyone needs from all that work is love, happiness and health,
So why oh why do so many strive simply to increase their wealth?
To me true wealth is being happy, not money held in the bank,
For a life like Getty, Rockerfeller or the Royals I would no one thank.
When they are loved is it real, or for what "lovers" see they possess?
Their pursuit of wealth is no success, when measured in terms of happiness.
I have a wealth greater than any man who ever lived, or is yet to be
That wealth is the love and happiness that you bring to me.
But love and happiness is not, after all, what keeps the family fed
So I will carry on going to work to earn that crust of bread.
That is until two thousand and nine, when we will have got it sussed
- No more tedious journeys to the office just to earn that crust
A new routine - day in, day out, - but one without a care
With every day being special - just knowing you are there.
