A Serviceman's Wife's Life

Ticking off dates on a calendar

Seeing time and life pass me by;

The days seem long and endless

Is it time for me to die.

Soon I will be happy again

Or so I try and tell myself;

Soon you will be back beside me

And, in you I've found my wealth.

I tell myself, you're lonely too

That you miss me as I miss you;

Evenings make me want to sit and cry

These days that's not hard to do.

It's not your fault you've gone away

The Service tells you when to go;

You've been gone less than a week

But the time's gone by so slow.

A little while later you'll walk in

And life will be like new;

We'll spend our nights and days together

As though we were stuck with glue.
