A Happy New Year

Once again it's time my friend

To bring the old year to an end:

To say goodbye to upset and tears

Time to wave away any old fears.

With a New Year comes great hope

That life is now on an upward slope:

The troubles of yesterday are nothing now

To be happy and friendly is your vow.

But look, just twelve short months ahead,

You won't remember what you said:

Another year so quickly passed by,

'Happy New Year' said with a sigh.

That my friend is the way of life,

All the heartaches and the strife:

Look at the things that could be done

If all the world could live as one.

There'd be no killing and no war,

Plenty of food at everyone's door.

Peace and happiness would rule the land,

The people proud to stand hand in hand.

But why concern ourselves with that

When visitors are standing on the mat.

'After all' I hear you say.

'It is a very special day'.

But spare a thought for those in need,

Take the time to do a good deed.

For greater things from this can start

And the world need not be torn apart.
